Alternative funeral & memorial services

When you want the chance to say farewell in a way that is meaningful to you..

A well-designed funeral or memorial ceremony opens spaces for us to honour the life and spirit of the loved one who has died, to gather up and treasure shared memories, and possibly even  make new connections.  It also provides a way for us to symbolise the necessary process of letting go and honours the bereavement of those left behind.

My personal preference is for a style of ceremony which allows space for all who wish to speak to do so, and for everyone to have the opportunity to say their final farewells in a manner that works for them.
[*I have found that this kind of ceremony is not always possible to achieve within the context of a crematorium chapel service, with the tight timeframes that this imposes.  If this is of concern to you, you may want to book extra time or consider holding the funeral ceremony at home or an alternate outdoor venue.]

Death, and the question of what follows, is one of the enduring mysteries of human existence. In my work as a celebrant I seek to honour the beliefs of the deceased and their immediate family, while acknowledging that each person present has their own beliefs and so will have their own way of making sense of this death and what it means for them.

At present I have limited mid-week availability, mostly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, however I would be happy to discuss your needs to see if I am able to accommodate your requirements.

“Ishara conducted our Ashes Scattering Ceremony for my father. On first meeting I knew she was just the right person for the job. She is very intuitive and takes the time to ask all the questions necessary for establishing exactly what is required. She made our ceremony special -yet accessible for all family members  to feel comfortable in participating as much or little as they wished.
Thankyou again  Ishara.”

“When one recalls a family member’s death, the circumstances of their death fades and the memory of the funeral and final goodbye is all that remains. When this family looks back on E’s death I’m sure they will remember a dignified and personal celebration of her life.

You have gone over and above your call of duty. You became more than our celebrant, you became an understanding, supportive and caring friend.  We thank you for the memories – you are a truly special person.”

“We knew our dad was an unconventional man and that a conventional church funeral would really miss the mark. We were lucky enough to find Ishara to help us put together our own memorial to our beautiful and passionate dad to hold an intimate and spiritual funeral at our dad’s house. Ishara guided us with much compassion and a complete understanding of our dad’s spirit to put together the most beautiful ceremony and held the afternoon together with the utmost professionalism and sensitivity. She helped us with the structure and content at every step resulting in an unbelievably perfect send off that was both joyous and cathartic. Our friends and family all thoroughly appreciated the ceremony and everyone had the opportunity to say goodbye to an amazing and enigmatic man in their own way. Ishara helped us do this in only a few days and we were so very very lucky to have found her.

Thanks deeply Ishara!”
